Ranked Choice Advisory Measure for Animal County*

This measure will provide your input on how Animal County might best address Animal County’s trail and waterway systems.  In 2020, a professional firm with expertise in trail and waterway design contracted with Animal County to complete an evaluation of our trail and waterway infrastructure.  The evaluation reviewed trail maintenance, waterway access, traffic counts and expansion options, potential recreational related enhancements, environmental impacts and related costs for each option.*

Advisory Measure Options

Option A

Build and expand Animal County’s trail and waterway infrastructure to support and accommodate the maximum predicted traffic volumes for the next 50 years.  Create and maintain waterway access points and facilities that will maximize recreational opportunities to 2040 standards for minimal environmental impact.  The estimated cost to build and maintain this level of trail and waterway infrastructure is sixty million dollars $60,000,000.

Option B

Build and expand Animal County’s trail and waterway infrastructure to support and accommodate the maximum predicted traffic volumes for the next 35 years.  Create and maintain waterway access points and facilities to maximize recreational opportunities to 2040 standards for an acceptable environmental impact.  The estimated cost to build and maintain this level of trail and waterway infrastructure is fifty million dollars $50,000,000.

Option C

Build and expand Animal County’s trail and waterway infrastructure to support and accommodate the maximum predicted traffic volumes for the next 20 years.  Create and maintain waterway access points and facilities that will support moderate recreational opportunities to today’s standards for environmental impact.  The estimated cost to build and maintain this level of trail and waterway infrastructure is twenty million dollars $20,000,000.

Option D

Build and expand Animal County’s trail and waterway infrastructure to support and accommodate the standard predicted traffic volumes for the next 20 years.  Maintain existing waterway access points and facilities with no new recreational opportunities and no change to the current environmental impact.  The estimated cost to build and maintain this level of trail and waterway infrastructure is ten million dollars $10,000,000.

Option E

Do not build or expand Animal County’s trail and waterway infrastructure.  Maintain only the existing trail and waterway infrastructure for five million dollars $5,000,000.
